10/01/06 Lost Cove Creek

Woke early this morning(3a.m.) and decided to try ot Lost Cove Creek. I arrived before daylight and waited untill i could see good enough to get down the trail.First off ,this is one of the most beautiful places in NC that i've ever been.I fished downstream from the falls abot 1/2 mile ,and got skunked.decided to come back out before i got too far down ,i didnt even see a fish, untill i started back upstream and saw a honest 20'' fish dart from a rock. The water in the creek was crystal clear ,the clearest i've ever seen,so im sure i spooked most fish before i had a chance to see them.I fished back up the creek slow ,with no luck untill i got to about where the trail comes to the river ,and ended up catching two browns (8" and 101/2")both of these fish were in the same deep pool and both caught off a nymph under a hopper. One camper asked how i did ,and said he had more luck upstream from the falls.I decide to fish that section next time,as i had to get home to catch atleast a little football. So back up the trail i went ,almost 1/2 mile up uphill ,it didn't seem that steep coming down in near dark! It was every bit worth the walk, and it is now one of my favorite places fishing or not .

Thanks for the report. Glad you found a special place. Down here in GA, I've sometimes thought of that as a backpacking destination. So many streams . . .

It was one of most beautiful places I've ever seen. I didn't catch anything when I went up there last fall, but will definitely go back. You're right about the hike out. Good gosh it’s a workout. I did it w/ neoprenes on like an idiot.

Sounds as if you had a great trip, glad to see someone can get out of the honey-dos. I am hoping to wet a fly this weekend somewhere.
