"Does anybody know of somewhere else we should try? --other than Montana or Wyoming, that is."

Good point, Phg. This is called the Southeast Fly Fishing Forum. It appears that the majority of people who are regulars here (and show up at the camp/fish shows) are either from NC, TN, SC, GA, or lower VA. Yes, there is a contingent of fine posters from the SNP, but it's actually a handful. Look at the posters.

I'm up for anywhere if I'm able to fish and camp. It DOES, however, need to be within an 8-10 hour drive for the long-distance participants like Backwoods Joe who lives on the NC coast, and the guys from Georgia like Billres and Croaker who already drive many hours to get to our camping places in upper NC and lower TN, maybe. It would take me 350 miles and 6 hours to get to the beginning of the Skyline Drive in VA, and I already live in the mountains (I don't live anywhere near Washington, D.C.). Imagine how long it would take those other guys. How about the Charlotte NC and lower SC contingent here (the majority of the members) ?? ..... I won't be at the Fall Show if it is in the SNP. Too far for a weekend, as far as I'm concerned. Just sayin'. Maybe I've already said too much. NC? Cool. TN? cool. I have licenses for them, and they are within driving distance. Just trying to say my piece.

I dunno. Somebody else can figure it out and decide, as far as I'm concerned.

<edit> BTW, I missed your post whilst typing this one, Creekscum. sorry for that. I don't matter anyway. I'm not much of a fisherman anymore.

There is the possibility of going back to Nantahala Wesser Campground but we would need to contact Pauline really soon.

I am OK with Wesser on the Nant. or Juddies on the SOHO.

The absurd out of state license for Tennessee is a legit concern to many folks.

NC or TN and you can count me in. SNP is too far for three day trip for me though.

My opinion doesn't mean anything, but that's my two cents.

SNP or elsewhere in VA would be cool sometime just to meet some of you. That's just me and my inability to travel to East Tenn/ WNC regularly.

I have never been to a show so I don't know what it entails but there are several nice campgrounds along Skyline Drive plus a couple fire roads in the adjoining wilderness area that are easily accessible and offer great on the water camping. Not sure how large a party is allowed though. From Skyline, there are tons of good headwater brookie creeks and plenty of gorgeous views.

Out of state license fees in VA are as expensive as in TN (and this year VA has not stocked much.)

Phil- there are also several from Kentucky on SEFFF too.

I am going to do my damnest to make it this fall (and make chili if y'all want.) I would prefer TN or NC.

Actually, since the Skyline Drive is due north of Raleigh the distances aren't as bad as some might think. According to Google Maps the southern end of the drive is 269 miles from Blowing Rock, about 338 from Wilmington, and less than 400 from Greenville, S.C. Raleigh is about as close to Charlottesville as it is to Boone.

May decide to come to one of these shows if y'all have me now that I've accepted that most of my fishing partners are somewhat older than me. Anywhere in NC or the SoHo would work, would love to invite y'all down to the Palmetto State but we just don't have the trout water.

I'm not as concerned as to where as to when. I've wanted to go to several group trips but I usually need a 2 month notice in order to get off work. Unfortunately for my trip scheduling, I work on weekends. Any ideas on which weekend?
