I picked up a XX 10 wt. Pretty decent rod. Its made well but smoother with sinking lines. Its a little tougher to cast with floating line but its a nice rod for hoarsing tarpon off the beach

The A-5 is a dynamite rod for the money. Albright had them for $90 last winter. Makes a great travel rod too.

Albright

I've got two in my stable, a 4wt/9' & 5wt/8'6", both the A5 models. I just wonder in amazement evertime I cast them like today. They cast a DTF line very well, are sensitive and got the backbone for big trout. I hate to say it but I love them as much as my Sage SLT/VPS, Winston BIIX! Talk about value, these are it!

I've got an Albright GP 3Wt reel with SA Mastery GPX WF floating 3wt line. Wish I'd paid the extra money at sale time for a GPX reel. Also have a Topwater 5wt rod used once that I'd sale real cheap to someone. I bought a set of Trinity waders at the same time that lasted a good season of briar patches. To me the waders were the best deal. They leak now but I used them like they were cheap throw away waders. I'd never do some of the stuff I did with the Albrights with expensive waders.

I'm doing an introductory fly fishing class for our TU chapter and we are using the 9' 5wt 4 pc rods Topwater outfits - Rod, Reel, Backing, Fly line and leader. They are a great value at the sale price. We got 17 of them for under $720. We paid for 12 and the owner of Albright gave us 5 free for our class.

I've casted them and they are a fantastic value at the sale price. They would be a great beginner set. I liked them so much that I order 4 sets for myself to use in other classes that I teach.

took that clunker to cherokee the other day and was so impressed with how it performed that I went home and ordered some back up stuff. My main complaint with the reel was that it was sticky. I hadnt fished it alot just played with it some. I then realized it was sticky because it has too much backing on it. After I strip off the first few feet of line. It aint sticky anymore. The reel performed flawlessly on some big fish yesterday and I didnt loose a single one (save for the one that straightened a hook) and I was fishing 5x tippet on a 6wt rod. I opened it up and it looks as if the drag is sealed (bugati) dont know alot about that because most of my stuff is trout gear. They called back today to say I get a free rod. It was a top water but hey free is free so some more back up equipment.

My neighbor got a few reels from them and we took them to Cherokee as well. That Bugati is a solid deal for under $40...........

Hello fellas and Merry Christmas to you,

I am thinking about purchasing an A-5 Albright fly rod for Christmas. What kind of action do you think this rod has. Is it moderate-fast, comparable to a ST. Croix Avid or faster. I will mainly be using this rod (9' 4 weight) on small-medium sized mountain streams, so I like some flexibility for roll casting and flipping. I would appreciate any input you may be willing to give.

Neal
