And yet another Spring Creek.

Well I spent the last two days after work on my new local creek. It is spring fed, and decidely suburban.Luckily it is in a greenway easement and you don't see any development.
It is a new one to me, but it fishes like most other springfed drainages. Cloudy water, lime marl and sulpher smelling muck bottom. What is cool about it ,is it's surprisingly good population of stream bred rainbows. So far the only mayflies I have observed have been on the tiny side, which also seems typical for the local spring creeks. Because of that and the tight cover,I was mostly fishing nymhs in the pockets and streamers through the runs. Here are the pictures.

A typical run.

The typical fish.

The little guys were just plain dumb sometimes.

This hole gave up 4 fish. The biggest gave me cartwheels and a few headhigh leaps before spitting the hook. I guessed him to be maybe 16".

This little oinker fought like a bulldog. He is obviously eating well.

After I get settled in up here, I got a creek to share with friends.I think anybody who fishes it would be surprised at the quality of the fishery considering it's size.Hopefully, it continues to fish well despite the nearby developments.

Nice healthly looking bows you got there Rob. I've got a guess where you were, bigger than I imagined...I've never fished it. Is that hole pictured the biggest in the section? Seems like the limestoners in the area tend to yield those chrome colored wild bows.

Chris,
This is the other one I was telling you about. It looks just like the one we fished, but apparently is much more fertile.I finally got around to fishing it. That hole is not even close to the biggest, up near the spring(s) there are some holes that are more like ponds than a creek. I also have noticed the consistent chrome, but i did get into one that was 57 chevy red that gave me an LDR.
Come out to the hills sometime and I will show you around.

And the same for you Jessie.

Badass Rob. You are the spring creek wizard.

I'm digging the rod too, is that the new featherlite? Where'd you find it?

I love my featherlight, but the plastic and brass are a bit of a laughable assembly.

I noticed troutlet's price shot up about $6 on 'em, so I'm assuming they're moving to the new price point because of the improved hardware...damn it makes it look better. Gotta grab one of those, and put the plastic childs toy in the back of the rack.

I got the featherweight on ebay for $22 after shipping. I too thought it was a beauty, and a cheap way to get into fiberglass.
