Anouncing Left Behind's 2007

Ok, y'all, time to start planning for the Left Behinds outing.

If you you weren't able to come to the Fall Show for any reason (or even if you did make it but just want to get together again), we will be having our 5th annual Left Behinds in Cherokee. The proposed date is the second weekend in Nov. (Nov 9-11, 2007). This is one day earlier than last year.

For you Psycho wanna-be's this is a chance to prove your mettle, Camping and fishing in the GSMP in the middle of November! ...OK, it's not that bad. The nights can be frosty, but the days are usually pleasant. Hopefully, we'll get some rain between now and then to raise the level of the GSMP streams. Raven's Fork, Straight Fork, Bradley Fork, the 'Lufty, and Deep Creek are just a few of the streams within easy driving distance. We also usually hit the Tuck for a float on Saturday. DH will be in full swing, and even if you don't float, parts of the river are wade-able even when they are generating.

Our plan, once again, is to stay, at the Cherokee KOA on Big Bend Road and using their Kamping Kabins. If we do this right, we should be able to reserve a cluster of buildings which will give us a common area between the kabins for our mess and campfires. Last year we stayed in Kabins 836, 837 and 845 (2-room). 844 is another 2-room that is adjacent.

2007 Rates (subject to change, etc., etc.):
1-room Kabin: $99.56
1-room Kabin on the river: $121.56
2-rook Kabin: $121.56
2-room kabin on the river: $143.56

If you want to bring your RV, it runs $40 to $60/night, depending on hookup.
Motels in town have off-season rates as well, and may offer a slightly better (and more civilized) deal.

In addition, if we pool resources to cook 2 group suppers and 2 breakfast's, we can do that for less than $20/person (we will calculate the actual cost later.)

Each attendee will be responsible for making his/her own kabin reservation.
1-room Kabins have 3 beds (1 double bed and 1 double bunk bed)
2-room kabind have 5 beds (1 double bed and 2 double bunk beds)

Anyway, if you're interested, respond to this post. Kabin rentals will be the individual's responsibility, and you can reduce your costs by sharing, but don't reserve just yet. We need to work on some of the details. We'll work out work assignments once we have a better idea how many people are coming. We'll get serious about this next week, after the Fall Show is over.

Speaking of details, is PCole still around? His wife used to have some contacts at the KOA....

The Kabins are just simple log structure with beds, coat rack, a small table and a cute little porch. They do have electricity, though. That makes it possible to warm them up with a smalish electric space heater. Of my 4 trips, I've been thankful for the heat all 4 times. It does get a bit cool at night up there in Nov.

The restrooms are normal KOA quality facilities located in several places around the campground. Not deluxe, but clean and adequate. Pcole is going to try to get some info that will help us in picking out the specific sites to reserve. The kabins on the river may be a bit far from an open restroom, but there are some others near the trout ponds that may do nicely.

We'll start getting serious about this next week.

Oh I am very tempted. I've always wanted to fish up there and I will have officially finished my book the week prior to this. I'll have to run it by "She whom must be obeyed"

Sounds like good times.
