I am not sure if I have posted on this site in the past, but I found it in my faovrite's list. I have been building bamboo rods for just about a year now. Currently I am working on several one piece rods in the six foot range. Has anyone else built such a rod. It's a Bob Nunley 504A?
I put together a Paul Young Midge, several years ago which is a 6'-3" rod. I have not made any of Bob's tapers however Bob is a friend and I cast several of Bob's rods over the years.
I glued on a handle and started wrapping the guides on this sweet little rod. At 4'9" this one piece is so nice. I need to find a light weight reel seat for this little baby.
I had already looked at that one, I wish I had not put my wood lathe away. I could use that hardware and a wood blank. I like the look of Spanish Cedar, the color matches closely to the dark flamed cane. I put on a wood spacer from another reel seat and the rod came in at 1.6 oz.
So I had to cut off the cork handle off the Blue Ridge I am building. The cork just did not meet my standards, it looked bad in fact. I had a cork from GW and I will use that instead. I should have know better in the first place. You have to use the best you can buy if you want your rods turn into something a person wants to own.
Good cork is tough to find these days unless you are willing to drop a lot of cash per ring. It definately does make a difference in appearance though.
What reel are you going to hang off of that little rod?
I don't have one at present, I will probably put this rod up for sale. I need to buy parts for the other 5 blanks I have made. If I did use it, what would you suggest?
