What is the cheek material (the blue/black under the jungle ****)? It almost looks like jay?

They were originally tied to represent a bait fish common to Quabbin Res in Massachusetts and trolled to catch salmon there.

I have been fishing them in the rivers here in CT and they do take there share of nice browns.


You fish it quatering down stream, allow it to sit at the end of the drift for a few seconds and then retrieve it, Many strikes come on that first pull.

It seems like it would be a good baitfish imitation. What is the style of fly called? I would like to do more information or look into a book about the particular style fly.
