Carnivorous Rainbow

I went fishing today and saw a very rare site. A very large Rainbow swam close to me and in its mouth was a 10” fish. I couldn’t make out what type of fish was the main course for this Bow, perhaps a sucker or another small bow. The large rainbow was estimated to be 23”-25” in length. Because the small fish was taken broad side, I am wondering if the Bow will choke on its meal.

I have attached a few photos for your closer examination and naturally I also threw in a few photos of some of the fish I was able to fool today. Yes the water is very cold, yes my guides iced up, my reel froze and my toes did finally thawed out about half way home, but winter fishing can still be worth the time. Don’t you agree?

You must have been on the Davidson. I saw a 8lb rainbow last week chasing small rainbows up and down the slick!

Looks like exciting day. You landed some great ones. That is crazy isn't it. I have seen it happen a few times. Ask Rod Champion about that one, I know he remembers! One time I had one trying to take a stocker off a hook for me also that was a rush.

I love fishing in the winter. Trout gotta eat to. I like it not because you're going to catch a ****load of fish, but because you don't have to contend with the crowds. There's also something great about crisp clean air and snow on the ground...

I have a good friend who grew up right on Beaverdam creek. There is a fantastic hole directly in front of his mother's house, and as a kid when he would clean deer him and his dad would throw the meat cut from between the ribs to the Studly rainbow trout living in the hole. I've seen pictures of the monsters he caught there while growing up, so if he didn't lie about the size of the fish I see no reason to doubt the story of meat eating trout!

Nice. I have had the pleasure of witnessing this first hand on more than one ocassion. Even hooked a big brown that attacked an 8" bow I hooked on the dry once. Check out the hatchhunters channel on you tube, Josh and I filmed a monster of a bow swimming off after grabbing a 12 incher in the shallows. We heard this splashing like someone was drowning, rowed over to it and seen it. It was wild to see for sure! Nice fish landed by the way, those were pigs themselves!
