Carrying Rod on Motorcycle
I recently bought a motorcycle, and thought it might make a good fishing vehicle (50+ mpg). I just need to see if anyone has come up with a novel way to carry a fly rod case (4-piece rod) on a two-wheeled vehicle

I fish with my Kawasaki Concours all summer. I found a 7pc 5wt that will fit in my bags. My vest and boots fit also. Its alot of fun. A nice ride and fishin' too.

If you fish for fish no larger than 12", have you considered a Tenkara rod? www.tenkarausa.com When I wet wade I often shove the rod in my back pocket.

I know this is off topic but I can't help but be reminded of the time I "borrowed" my dad's new boron bass rod for some pond fishing. I was riding down the road in the pre-dawn hours on my hot-rod 70cc Honda with that fine new rod butt on the seat and the rest shoved through the gap in the handlebars. Then came the moment that I swerved to avoid a mud hole and that rod slipped down to wedge between the gas cap and the indicator light. In this position I couldn't turn the wheel without breaking the rod, but I was quickly approaching the roads edge and a subsequent deep ditch. I had to make a decision, rod or my life. I picked the rod...went down the ditch, hit the bottom, flipped the bike over frontwards and heard the sickening crack of a broken boron rod. It's been 25 years since and my dad is still mad about that rod.

Rod on a bike.
I have done this awhile back, but it involved another person behind me. We didn't have a starter on the cycle, it was broken. It was hilarious. he'd push the bike 'till it started, then I'd drive in a fairly wide circle. While I was at a very slow speed, he'd hop on the back with our gear. Then we'd roar off to "where ever". What a couple of knotheads. If I tried that today...

i would just simply use a backpack if posible we get on our atvs and go back in the mountain and camp and fish for a couple days every other month and if i don't strap it to the front rack i just would put it in a backpack with it sticking out of the top that will work if u don't have racks u could strap it to

I always use a backpack for everything, I put a four piece rod down inside the pack along with the rest of my gear. Wading boots are a bit tough to get in there, and kind of uncomfortable to ride with against your back. Everything else seems to work out good though. I just put my jacket and gloves in the bag, when I get to where I'm fishing and stash the pack along with my helmet in the woods, and not close to my bike either. make sure you have some sort of disc lock for your bike if your fishing where you can't keep an eye on it. Bikes are easy to snag.
The pack I use is a William Joseph Exodus back pack. Its perfect for me.
Its a ton of fun to make your bike a fishmobile. I got mine for gas mileage last year, and I use for most everything now.
I have a Ninja ZX6R. I do kind of wish I had an adventure touring bike though, like BMW's 650GS. That thing would be perfect to fish from.
I have been thinking of creating a motorcycling angler sub board on here for a few months, just not sure of how it would fair. With the economy the way it is, I figure there might be an intrest, both activities are fun, combining them just adds another dimension. What do you guys think?

Eugene, do you use a sidecar or small trailer to haul your clients?

My "new" bike is a 2008 Kawasaki Versys 650, and I have it equipped with Givi 21 liter hard bags. The bags just aren't big enough for my rod case, so I was looking at alternatives.
