choosing a reel

I have a couple of Lamson Konics (one on a 3wt and one on a 5wt), but I'm wondering if I should try an Orvis CFO for my next reel? The CFO is about $80 more, and in the size line I'll be using and the size fish I'll be chasing it won't do more than balance the rod and hold the line. It does weigh less, though. I know this is almost nothing but opinion, but what would you guys do? Another Konic or go for a CFO? This would be for a 4wt.

I have two CFOs, one is an old school click and prawl and the other is a older disc drag. Both are fine reels and truth be told the drags rarely get a work out. Like you said, balance and line holder. I also have a Lamson Radius 3 for my smallmouth outfit. Lamson and Ross drags are rock solid. Personally I don't care for the looks of the newer Lamsons though. So back to line holder and aesthetics, I would probably go with Ross or Galvan. For around the same price as the CFO you would be in the Ballpark of the Galvans. I would not buy a new CFO if for no other reason the reels are made in China. Lamson(not sure about all models), Ross and Galvan are made here.

So my vote is for other.

I too had looked at the CFO but ultimately did not by it because I would rather have USA made products if at all possible. I am not saying that the CFO is a bad reel because I am sure it is quality, just stating my personal preference. I have a couple of Ross reels that I could not be happier with.
Just my .02
