Fall Show Cancelled

Due to a lack of interest and support, The Strawbosses have agreed that the fall show in Nantahala will be cancelled for this year. As of today, more than a month after the sign up went up I have received 1 deposit. No new sign ups have occurred in weeks and I have committment from only 4 people.

With the Fall SHow now 3 weeks away, there are not enough people going to make the trip worth the time and effort of hauling all the gear and supplies.

See you at Lyin and Tyin and Shady Valley......

Ive never been to one of these, and was wanting to go to this one possibly. I just recently lost my drivers license temporarily, so I was trying to talk a couple of friends into going so I wouldnt have to drive. I just havent gotten a solid yes from them yet. Oh well, maybe I can make the next one.

Was looking forward to going as well...

The original post has now been taken down, but as I recall, deposits were not "due" until the first weekend in October. Maybe next time ask for an earlier deadline to get more "committed" interest?

I'll stand up for Devinsdad here.
Strawbossing a "Show" is an incredible amount of work and planning. It's only 3 weeks away, and nobody has put down money. DD has to have the campground reserved, a load of firewood ordered, cooks for meals, etc. etc.

If nobody except for 4-6 people sign up, the Strawboss cannot run this Show. We usually have 25-30 people sign up well in advance and put their paltry money in.

Nobody did it this time.

Don't blame Bob. He had a timetable, and it didn't work this year. Nobody signed up.
I hate that. I love the camp/fish trips.

I'm truly sorry that the fall camp out fell thru. I am also guilty of not throwing any cash your way but I thought the deadline was a couple weeks away. I did volunteer for a night as galley slave and after finding out I could get my weekend off was tinkering with the idea of volunteering for breakfast chief. I was hoping to meet a few of you guys in person. Maybe next go round. If there are any folks out there that may want to hook up during that time I got off that week to fish.

Not blaming anyone, sorry if my post was interpreted that way. If hearding fly fishermen is anything like herding WW paddlers, I admire their dedication to forcing a heard of cats through the eye of a needle. I understand the time and effort needed to organize such an event, and was merely requesting that it be considered that the requested "due date" wasn't for another 2 weeks before we start calling out a group for not sending in money.

I'll bet it's not just the money. $30 for camping, fishing, and meals Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning? It wasn't about the money.

It was because nobody signed up. Lack of interest. Durn.

Well, no matter, I will make the next one if I can. It sounds like a great time (how could it not be? campin and fishin) and Im sure I would learn a lot from some of the fly fisherman on here.

Well, darn. I was looking forward to meeting you yay-hoos. I was delegated to clean-up and recently sent my $30. When's the next one? I just ordered some new little teeny bugs. Oh well, they'll get used.

Guys-
if you mailed a check in the last day or so, I will return it to you as soon as I receive it.

I had to make a judgement call, usually by now we have quite a few more deposits posted, and new signups. I also had a few folks contact me to back out.

Due to my personal situation, I have to make arrangements for my son and the dog. There are always several who say "I'm coming" and they never do.

I talked this over with a few, but not all of the strawbosses..JT, Creekscum, Disco and I talked about it several times before I made the call. I hate it too as this trip and this area is one of my favorites. In the end it was just too much work with no firm committments except for 4 guys. We've had 19 straight with no hiccups, we had to have one sooner or later.
