I guess it depends on where you're using the reel and how much money you want to spend. For saltwater I think it's hard to beat a Tibor, although Nautilus (Old Florida) makes some fine reels. In fresh water I use Ross or Orvis and you can't beat the price.

Saltwater my fav is Ross but my Lamsons do well too. Everything else is a hodge podge of TFO, Lamson, Teton, Orvis, and Ross Worldwide.

Did Teton ever get rid of the slop in the spindle?
What blew it for my ever buying a Teton is when they came out with 'large arbor' spools for their frames.
They were large arbor alright! They just had a larger diameter arbor in the center which did but two things... make for groovy marketing and reduce the amount of line those reels could carry.

Besides that, rumor has it they're either out of business or on the brink.

fav reel

No Henschel here? Check them out at your next FF show. I have personally seen these reels stand up to punishing abuse, I am talking about someone taking a hammer to them, and the type III anodize not fail.

I love the old Hardy's....pre-WWII on my cane rods such as the Perfects, St Georges, Uniqua, etc. Of course needing LHW has limited what I can fish out of my collection. However, the LRH series and also Marquis series post war are great reels for my glass and graphite rods. I don't much care for their latest reels plus they are starting to get them made in China, at least some models.

Also am fond of the old Lamson LP's that are out of production and have them in several sizes.

Uh, well, I do have a Sage 3200 click and pawl that is the latest reel I bought a few yrs ago which I like because it is a large arbor and has very fine teeth on the gearing making it smooth as butter.

Think I'd better just stop here.
