Give me something to tie

Im about to leave work and make the drive home where I will assume the posistion at the vice untill the sun comes up just as I do every night (unless Im fishing the next day, and sometimes even when I have to leave before sun up to fish) Im not that committed...Im an insomniac.

Was I awake, have I been sleeping?

So with that said... Ive been cranking them out every night this week and I have visions of stoneflys, midges, pheasant tails, serendipities, and dirty DH flies dancing in my head.

I need something else to tie. Preferably a nymph pattern as its winter and I wore out all my hackle this summer and need to go buy some.

Your suggestions are appreciated as Im having "tyers block" and cant think of any pattern that (forget needing it on the water) would be just fun to tie at the moment.

Thanks,
Riparian

How about a nice, big daddy long legs pattern. That ought to keep you busy.....and I think it would actually catch some fish. I used to use them as bait when I was a kid and it always worked like a charm.

I love tying little zebra midges in multiple colors. Don't know why, just do.

I also like to tie a mix between a zebra and a PT nymph. It's flashier and sparser than a normal PT but bushier and less flashy than a plain zebra. I still tie with the "legs" and small tails of a PT...Just something to mess around with...I conjured this hybrid up as I was T.U.I. and found it the next day...

Start tying Clyde style soft hackles, or flymphs.

How about some buzzers? Not only does the name sound cool when say it but they also work. I've tried them at three different rivers and caught fish each time. Sz. 16 did the trick for me.

yep,

Whats the difference in those and serendipities. Ive heard the serendipities were based on those and I know fish love the serendipities.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys Ive got something to look forward too.

Also Greg I need to quit being slack and send you a check for some beads that would certianly give me more options.

Riparian,
Not sure what the difference is between the serendipities and buzzers .... I believe on youtube Dave McPhail shows his blue buzzer pattern .... at one time I dyed up a bunch of cobalt blue goose biots for this particular fly. It's actually a simple pattern to tie once you get the hang of it. The blue buzzer is the only one I've tied and ....... it works.

Heath, I've been tying some scuds of late ..... brown ones ..... using a patch of natural kangaroo hair ..... good stuff. I'm hoping to get some colored 'roo hair in the near future.

Also been tying a bunch of midges .... 24's.

Whatever you've decided to tie, I'm sure they look good and will work just fine.

Try the $3 Bridge Serendipity:
http://www.blueribbonflies.com/merch...s_nymphs.shtml

Learned this one when I was in MT this summer. Very easy fly, and can be tied in a ton of colors. Basically a thread body with gold wire counterwrap. Head is elk hair (less is more) instead of a wad of Deer Hair like the traditionals.

Try tying using krystal flash for the body for a different approach. Also, for a "hard body", you can coat the body in Hard as Nails or head cement for added durability.

Best fished in tandem, a true killer even here in the Southeast.
