Maybe someone took the names off to hide the greatest secret stream in TN? If thats turns out to be the case can I get the location?

Sprringer, That must be it. A conspiracy against fly fishermen. I'm beginning to think these little streams do not have names, because you can cross them without getting your feet wet except in rain.

Great minds think a like. Pointing out the obvious is under geographical features, and make sure waterways is checked. It doesn't name all of them, or even a lot of them, but it does add some. The next best thing I have found so far is to use a topographic overlay. There are several out there, some are better than others. I'm not on the computer that I have it installed on but I'll see which one is the best and try to remember where I downloaded it from.

I haven't tried this yet but from what I understand pretty much all the streams are in GNIS, its just that no one has ported them over to google earth. I'm trying to find a GNIS KML that may have that data but so far no luck.

We can also request that they add this feature.

Has anyone tried the Pro version? I'm wondering if it has more details in regards to stream databases.

I haven't tried it yet but there is a KML for USGS waterflow data.

That's weird, the stream names are back on there now. I know for sure they had taken them off though, they must of just put them back on. I think they have been working on the terrain map on google because they also added the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests to Virginia which they didn't have on there before. They also added national forest land along the blue ridge parkway.
Now they just need to fix Google Earth:)

They won't be coming for awhile yet
But this does help http://www.geonames.org/
Type in a creek name for the USA and look through the names till you find the state you know it's in....behold GPS coordinates.

why not for a while?

Also,
Matt I sent the request, here is a copy of it, perhaps we could get a movment going and pester them with requests.

"I and many others are intrested in an overlay for stream, river, and lake names as well as secondary roads and trail, down to the smallest streams, feeder creek, and headwaters. The intrested group is a motley bunch of fringe lunatic flyfishermen known as "blue liners." We pick out little tiny blue lines on the headwaters of streams and rivers (overlay them with other information, such as REDACTED) and narrow our searches to find the best fishing."

That has been going on for over 2 years....good luck. All streams names were already out there at one time. They had it on all their maps even mapquest did too. Why they killed the streams is still not know since it was up and going at one time on the regular maps for Google and Mapquest. Just a guess but it bloated the program and when most folks don't use land structures to navigate(so they figure) they did away with that feature so it will load faster or there was a conflict between the folks who provide the maps to Google and the cost wasn't worth the return. All the streams were named before and it was on there...then they killed it. I can tell you the bottom line is money....either with the folks who provide it or the amount of service it uses to produce the maps with all stream names on it.
