got my first red...

Finally caught my first red on the fly...

My dad and I took a trip out of Gulf Breeze, Fl to do some saltwater fishing. Got a couple of mackerel early, then the redfish bite turned on....pods of bull reds pounding bait on top. The first attempts failed as I crumbled under the rush...lines tangled at my feet or casts that fell limp at the bow. When i finally got my head together, cast the fly out, he chased it right to the boat....and the fight was on.

Great day on the gulf....

I hear that. I have chased them twice and still don't have anything to show for it. Several hook ups, fights, but the damn spartina grass will cut a leader in a heartbeat.

Nice Red!

Good job. Funny how when you sight fish for drum the line seems to tangle and catch on everything.

Wow, that does not suck for a first red. I am real good at finding a knot in my slack line when I see fish that big.

Awesome Red MC3 ! You need to frame that Pic .

Used to fish all around that area.
Sold our boat several years back .
Wife was from P'Cola.

Makes me want to go back after them !
Did you use a guide?

snickster - i did use a guide out of gulf breeze...i'd post his name, but i don't want to ruffle any feathers since he isn't a board sponsor. he was great, i'd recommend hime anytime.

it was a blast, but a lot different from stalking them on the flats..
