Green River DH 12/21

I finally got some days off and I went to the Green today for about 2 1/2 hours. Don't know what's going on but the fish seemed to be few and far between. I pretty much had the river to myself (at least where I was fishing). Fished 4 of my favorite holes and caught a few and missed a few. I'm guessing the river got partially stocked due to the low water, and I'm also guessing there's been some folks taking some fish home with them. Anyway, the fish I caught were a bonus -- I just needed to get on the water for a while.

Before I left I saw something that was pretty cool -- I was standing in this long stretch of calm water and a deer stepped out of the woods and started walking up the middle of the river towards me. I watched her for about 70 yards and when she got about 30 feet away from me she stopped. I stood still and simply looked. After about a minute, she retreated to the bank and trotted off into the woods. It was beautiful.

You are so right. There is something about deer and water that can't be beat. I watch deer wade across shallow spots on the Neuse and swim across deeper spots. Even had them scare me a few times when I've walked too close and didn't notice them and then all *&%$ breaks loose when they bolt.

Have you had hummingbirds buzz your hat yet?

The Green gets poached by the people that live on it and others. The warden that patrols it is ferocious. He issues citations one behind the other, but his area is too big and cannot be on the river day and night.
Also, the Green has a pretty big population of otters on it and they love to chew on trout.

Deer in a creek are fun to watch especially if they are playing or fighting.

I used to live in H'ville and fished the Green a lot. I liked to go above Summit some, caught several there. I miss it and Big Hungry too.
