1. be stealthy when you are fishing... yes that mean kneeling down or even going prone! knee pads are really good for this (learned this from team usa lol!) and dont laugh at the guy wearing knee pads just to save his waders.

2. Dont fish a 6'11 3wt. for 18" stocked rainbows

3. Check your tippet after each fish during a 2 fly tournament

4. You need to give big fish time and they dont just come in 2min. fights.

5. What everyone else said

6. look what you are about to crawl through to sneek around some trout before you go into it and get poison ivy all over your face and neck

7. Scott Rod Company fixed a rod i lost the warrenty on! so buy more scott rods.

8. Ross reels can stop a dump truck

9. remember the TP

10. What everyone else said

break a rod (not intentionally) and value the experience of the repair process!

I think Dixiland hit the nail on the head with regards to watching the stream prior to fishing. Also turn over a couple of rocks and understand not only what the fish are eating subsurface- but also what size and color.

4) Always ALWAYS carry a spare lighter in a dry place. Not for starting fires, but because it sucks to have smokes and no way to light them.

Take your butts with you
I found no less than a dozen cigarette butts on a rock next to a pool earlier this week.

That would be an awesome resolution!

Yeah. Cause those HAD to be mine....

I'm the butt nazi, dude. Wait.....

Anyway, I'm serious about cigarette butts. Won't even let folks throw 'em out the window if I'm in the car.

Find someone else to blame for it, boss.

thanks, everyone, for the great tips. try to work water close in and marginal water before launching that amazing, awe-inspiring 90 cast to the best looking spot...thereby putting down the close fish...its funny how many of the guys i have had the honor of fishing with uncorked really long casts as their first offerings....

Always remember that every fly fishing horror story begins with the words "The trail should be right up there.".

for winter fishing

Rub some Chapstick in your eyes (ROD EYES ONLY) to slow ice buildup. It won't prevent icing but it will slow it down because the water will glide off. Eventually you will have ice clogged eyes but not as often. You will do a lot less picking, pinching and flicking and more fishing.
