We made the drive to Gatlinburg tuesday night, stayed on the mountain for the week with plans to fish the Smokys all week.
Didn't get to fish Wednesday, but rather shop all-day with the womenfolk

.
Thursday, my group of furshermen started the day with whining and ranting about the rain, and eventually decided to try the strech of the Little River through Elkmont. Water levels had risen to the point that, even fishing at the bottom with nymphs and San Juan Worms, they weren't biting, Cursed rain. We tried another stretch of the Little River, but it was the same story there. So for the day's end, we made way back to the cabin, like a group of sopping-wet, grumpy men.
Friday, We sat on the couch and watched the rain come in and pour hard on the Smokys, once again, we grumbled. After the rain broke, we headed down the mountain and set our sights on two other creeks I wish to not name. These streams are conisdered "Too small to fly-fish" which I think is a rediculous statement, but we hoped the water conditions would be suitable there. To no surprise, water wasn't any better on these streams, HIGH and swift. We fished anyway, trying the same flashy nymphs, San Juan worms and bright egg patterns. No trout , however my brother landed one ugly creek chub. Once again, we ended the day with a return to our cabin quite as an unpleasant group of people.
Today, we left our cozy little cabin behind and started on the 4 hour journey home. With our shortage of luck in the Smokys, we decided to fish Upper Creek, by Brown Mountain, since it had not poured rain in that area. Once we had arrived, the water looked fantastic, and we set our hopes high on the next few hours.
We drove in on Forest Service Road 197, and hit the water. The fishing here was better than anywhere else we had tried. I missed more than a dozen fish on several different flies and caught 3 fish, but once again, no trout. Whatever the fish was, they were colorful and fought well for its size of about 4 inches. These fish had a Jet Black backbone, which faded into a rough silver side and featured bright red stripes on the cheek and fins. Anyone wanna give me a lesson on this mysterious creature?
We set out planning on a week full of trout fishing, and left with an unsatisfied itch, but the 48 deer(including a 170-class 8 point buck

), 6 bear and 20 turkeys, we made the best of our journey.
