Knife question

What folding knife do you all use when your hiking in or back country camping?

I carry a Victor Knox Cyber Tool and a Leatherman Wave multi tool.

Just a curiosity question for sure.

I've been focused on the 'leave no trace' ethic for the last few years. That said, my knife is used for food preparation at camp sites and cutting line/rope for shelter. The knife on multi-tools works pretty well for me.

Counting on a knife when the chips are down I go with a fixed blade. Bark River Huntsman. Built like a tank, but nice light, and a good size.

Fixed Blade

I have a Sog Seal Pup, fixed combo blade with a great edge.

I carry a fixed blade knife also. I was just wondering about folding knives. Pocket knife.

I try my best not to mess with nature myself.

I'm thrifty (some say cheap) so I carry one of those multi-tool "knock offs" which you can buy at Lowe's for about $6. Bought one and was so impressed that I went back and bought 2-3 more. Sharpened them up and now have one in my day pack, fanny pack and on my belt. Probably wouldn't want to use it to skin out a deer - I have a folding Buck for that.

Probably the knife I use most often is the little key chain one from Victornox which comes with blade, toothpick, scissors and nail file. Just remember to remove it before you go through airport security.

Here's the one I carry every day, not just for fishing/outdoors.

Gerber Mini-Paraframe, fine edge.
3" Folded, about 5 /14" opened and locked.
Good Steel, sharpens easy, keeps an edge.
Costs about $20.00. No great loss if dropped into the creek, which I have been known to do.

I carried that same gerber for a couple years and it definately gets the job done (even though it did require a lot of sharpening). My lovely girlfriend got me a Kershaw Leek with the Damascus Steel blade for Christmas, The best knife Ive owned. easy to sharpen, stays sharp, easily opened with one hand, and looks pretty cool too. it is a little more pricey than most but to me has been well worth it.

That's a beautiful knife. I love Damascus, but I can't imagine taking one on the river because I'd be certain to drop it in some very fast rapid or some very deep hole.
