I'm in......I think Pcole has already reserved two lodges for us...so any change in plans should be done reasonably soon....I like the KOA....and last year spent the majority of the evening indoors tying flies....where we were'nt bothering anyone.

I might be unable to attend. I was looking forward to it after missing the Fall Show.
I talked to my Father in Florida yesterday. He just turned 97. "You better come down here pretty soon," he said.
I was planning on taking 2 days off work before Thanksgiving to drive us down there and see my old Dad for probably the last time.

If I can swing an extra Friday off right before that, I'll try. I'd love to come. Last year's Left Behind was a blast (even though I wrecked my car, broke my reel, and got stung by hornets). It'll be dicey, though. I don't know if I can take two vacations in one month.

Wasn't that your first LB?
Over the years we've had plenty of good times (and weather) sitting around the campfire having a blast.
If we have to stay in a Kabin or have lights out at 10:00, I ain't for sure that's the bestest way to go.
Jes sayin'
I'll be there anyhow, rain or 'shine', **** or highwater, tippy-toes or out-and-out partying!

I understand all the concerns expressed. The focus of these outings, though, is on community, and for all it's shortcomings, the facilities at the KOA does allow us to have a group dining area and campfire, and the Kamping Kabins do provide a bit more protection from the cold and comfort than a tent would.

If there were another place that offered a cluster of rustic cabins at a reasonable price, I'd be interested, but so far, nothing has turned up.

I'm attaching a 3 to 4 year old map of the upper end of the KOA, which includes the cabins. In the first years, we stayed over near the river, in the 707, 708, 709 area. The first 2 years I ran the outing, we centered in the cluster 836, 837, 845, which gave us a nice common area between the cabins. This past year, we were near the trout ponds, I think 788, 789, 790 which also worked OK, as the sites behind us were unoccupied tent/trailer sites, so we were reasonably well away from other campers. Unfortunately, the bathhouse, labeled 'A' in this map, will be closed, and the other bath house is 200 to 300 yards away, a bit far to walk in the middle of the night when the temps are in the upper 20's....

The Kamping Kottages that Pcole, Smokey and OB stayed in are off the map to the left, behind the main office. They are nice, but the logistics of using them for the whole group would be complicated.

Anyway, I'm thinking that we should stick with the KOA this year, but be looking around at other options for next year. There's bound to be something else that's suitable in the general area.
