Left Behinds: Work Items
OK, only 2 weeks to do, time to nail down the details. Who can bring what? Who's cooking? We have 11 or 12 signed up right now, but we could have a couple more. Also may be 1 or 2 extras at meal time.
I should have added a bit more detail. We need 2 evening meals and at least 1 breakfast (we did 2 last year, but we're only 5 miles out of Cherokee). I think PCole was volunteering to do one evening. I can do either an evening or breakfast. We can also use some cleanup, but if we have to, we'll draft help as needed.
Equipment, we need coffee pots (2) another canopy would be good. A couple of camp stoves and lanterns (it gets dark early), small cans of propane, plastic plates, bowls, forks, napkins, etc. Water jugs, one or two tables for preparation and serving. Trash bags, big ice chests and ice.
Anybody think of other things we need?
Meals: Firday, Chilli. Phill executive chef, flychamps galley slave.
Sat. breakfast: sausage, eggs, and grits. phg cook
Sat. evening: planning PCole chief cook.
Sun. breakfast: depends on what we have left over
phg: 1 big frying pan, 2 big kettles, 10'x10' canopy, lantern, cooking utensils, 48-qt cooler
PCole: firewood
Phil: coffee pot, canopy, 2 burner stove, coffee
flychamps: 2-burner stove, coffee pot, water jug, lantern
Billres: lantern, coffee pot

phg --
Shoot me a PM or list things that I could bring. I don't know where to start. I got a coffeepot, 2 burner propane campstove, canopy, etc.
I'm not situated well with cooking utensils, pots, pans, etc. and you DON'T want me cooking. Trust me. I'll be happy to help with cleanups, though.

I'll bring a 2 burner stove, coffee pot, 7 gallon water jug, lantern and propane.
Put me down to help when and where you need me.

Do we need another 2 burner stove with propane? I can bring it.
I can also bring another camp coffee pot and a few pounds of coffee if we need more than one coffeepot. I don't have a large water container, but would be happy to bring several gallons of distilled water.
I have a box of those waxy cube firestarter things that I use in my fireplace to start fires easy. I could bring 4-8 of them.
Lemme know what else I can bring. I'm new at this.

Phil, thanks. The idea is to spread things out among participants to take advantage of what they may already have. As for food, and other consumables, we will figure up our costs and then take up a collection to reimburse everyone. Typically, we can do the whole weekend for less than $20 per participant.
Two coffee pots, two stoves and two canopies should be enough. We do need a table or two. We can purchase the plastic, and paper products we need.
We need cooks and cooks helpers. Right now we are looking at feeding 15. Breakfast is pretty easy, coffee, sausage, grits, eggs, etc. If you are willing to help cook, but just don't what to be in charge, just say so. We just don't want to make the same 2 people do all the cooking.
If no one else has a good stew, chili or other one pot meal that can be scaled up to 15 servings, I can do my Jambalaya again.
Of course, everyone needs to bring a chair of some sort for the campfire.
Anything else anyone can think of, pipe up.

Guys,
FYI - I spoke with KOA and the state Forest Service today and both confirmed that as of today 10/2/07 ALL fires and campfires have been banned in the state forest including campgrounds outside of the remote locations. This means NO fires PERIOD. We had two cords scheduled for delivery which we had to cancel. They did finally stock the streams last week now that there is SOME water and the ponds are fully stocked. Hope you guys have a great time...see you up there.

No sitting around the campfire? No campfire? Bummer big-time. Oh. well. I do understand, I guess.
Maybe it'll rain before we get there. I don't think it's supposed to, though.
Maybe another Left Behind person would bring another lantern that we could warm our hands around. I ain't got one.
I'm not pussin' out, though. Too late to pull out now.
We'll throw down, eat, drink, have fun, and fish wherever we can find water.

Bring longjohns, a good jacket, and gloves. The Cherokee weather report says lows in the upper 20's-lower 30's at night.
