Nantahala DH area

Is this a high theft area? I have been there once but someone stayed with the truck because he didnt fish. I am thinking about going there over Labor Day. any thoughts on this?

I know a lot of folks that fish that area, and I haven't heard of much happening. Well nothing actually, but I am sure somewhere along the lines something has. Nothing is safe anymore. I would say that for the most part you can always be pretty near/in sight of you vechicle if that makes you feel any better. Not sure what the traffic would be like on the DH section over labor day, I imagine that there wouldn't be too many fisherman in the area. I could be totally wrong though.

Well the DH is long over. So I think what he was saying is that a vast majority of the fish "have been invited to dinner." If you thought it fished good a couple of weeks ago with many of the fish gone, you should see what NC DH's are like once they get dumped back in during the fall. I am telling you as an Atlanta Resident, you will forget all about the Hooch or Taccoa DH.

The Nantahala has some pretty good, fishable water upstream. Some of the guys had pretty good success fishing the upper end this past weekend. Unfortunately, I've never been there, so I can't tell you how to get there....

nany dh

i'm sorry to hear that. As long as i've been up here i've never heard about anybody gettin ripped there. Although it dosen't surprise. western NC like the rest of the country has a rising meth problem. On another note i'd definatly come back after labor day. Less people cooler temps and god willing more water.

I fish the DH section several times a year and never had any theft problem. You park right along the road and, although I sometimes fish around a curve, there is a fair amount of traffic going by. A thief would have to be pretty high and stupid to try something with everything that much in the open.
