November wild water

Got out for a few hours today. The weather was beautiful and the flows were perfect. I actually had a few big ones show up today, but they were all LDRs. I still managed plenty of fish, though. The hits were roughly half on the dry fly and half on the nymph. I noticed that I had to let my flies linger in the slack water and "dance" for several seconds before I'd get a strike, compared to the immediate hits that would occur in the warmer months.

Browns spawn in this stream and at one point there is a man-made structure that creates about a 3' waterfall. I stood on the top of it and watched 12-14" browns try time and again to jump up it, only to come up short every time. I actually ended up catching one of them and let him go above the fall, just because I am such a nice guy.

Don't worry about the falls, I have seen fish make it up a 8 foot cascade.

Nice water, and fish!

Looks like a great day, that's a handsome-looking brownie.

Dancing

I too noticed on TH of this past week that dancing and skittering my fly offerings over the water's surface was more effective than a drag free drift.
