BTW I wouldn't mind fishing a boo rod.

I'll bring a little 7' 4 weight to the SNP gathering for you to try. This one flexes all the way down into the cork.

You talking about that 7030? That is an awesome little rod. Still want to cast that 8642 sometime.

Cowboy, Nice avatar.. I have a friend that looks like one of the cavemen.
Here is my 2 cents....
New School= Throwing anything that will catch a trout... Pellet flies, green weenies, bobbers, tripple riggs, streamers, egg patterns....etc
Beer Drinking, junk food eat'n, dawn to dark mentality, any condition, any location any time...its a life style.
Old School= Tweed wearing, cigar smoking, brandy sipping, own enough gear to stock a small fly shop, but don't have a clue how to use it, stream side lunches with a checkered table cloth, Orvis, 9 to fiver, dry fly purist, etc... it just a hobby!
In all reality it is great to see the sport evolve and appeal to the younger generation. This will ensure the future of the sport.
Oh, DH is a good thing, although I love to hate on it. I for one started on DH when it was a new concept. Although I have graduated to other waters, it is still nice to slay the fish once in a while, even if they are stockers.

You talking about that 7030
|
No, I've got an old HI from the 20's that I bought from Paul at the Thornton River Shop before it went under. It's one of HI's higher models but don't know which one. The folks over on the Classic Rod forum couldn't even id it. The shape of the HI sticker dates it to the 20's but the model name is long gone. It was my SNP stick before I got the 7030, which is much more of a medium action.

Dang son, hit the nail on the head. Thats exactly how I feel about the sport these days.... Now I am gonna shell out 200 dollars on a vest, because it will, somehow, help me catch fish
Yeah the cavemen rock... My friend was gonna be the geico caveman for halloween but wimped out last minute.. his costume was epic fail in the end. As a matter of fact, he was epic fail that night, a dang anchor.
Dan, I want to get a nice brookie on that boo rod to make my final "evaluation"
Heres to hoping we get more rain before the meetup
Now, off to class. Shapin' up to be a good discussion.

Dshort, no that does NOT make you elitist. If you like them because you like them, good for you. I can appreciate the nostalgia and would even decorate with them in my office if I had some older ones to do that with. When I say they were left behind, I mean technology wise they are in the dust as far as pure efficiency, speed, weight, etc. go. by glass, then graphite. My attitude is not "towards can rods" but the majority of boo fishers (from very personal experience) who only do it because it is cool to do it. It's like the Dave Matthews Band. Again, from personal experience, 95% of everyone I knew in college was big time into DMB and 95% of those people only listened to them because it was cool to like them because the other sweater vests did it. At least, that's how I saw it. I know probably a dozen guys who fish boo regularly on a first name basis, not best buddies mind you. Exactly 2 of them do it because they just enjoy the bamboo and one of those 2 because he enjoys building and rebuilding them. The rest just think they appear to be part of the upper echelon for doing it...douchebags....That goes for anyone who does something simply for that reason in my book.
I'm sure bamboo is great for some people especially those who enjoy slow action. There was a time when I thought I loved glass rods but I got frustrated with my Fenwicks after a while because the slow action became annoying in some situations.
There is an unfortunate stereotype attached to bamboo that was earned by the elitists on your behalf. I do not believe you personally to be elitist based on anything you say on the board and couldn't possibly know either way. It just seems to me that a majority of boo fishers are, not the boo itself.

Oh, I forgot to mention hardware.... I love to throw plugs, lures, spinners and so on....... Not all the time, but sometimes its nice to switch it up!
I am not sure if that fits the new or old school thinking... but it goes back to my mentality and drive to catch fish under any circumstance.
Oh and Midgets Strippers and those rods that shoot you line like a cannon rock! Not that that has anything to do with anything, just thought I would share !

I hope they didn't delete that dude Tang's acct.just on the fact alone that he started one of the funnniest threads ever on this forum.
How does one know which group he is in if he isn't sure? Is it age based?

Do you know what happened? The last things I saw him post was ... "Are the moderators on here strict?" ... Apparently he got his answer? Let me know what happened ...

I gave up fishing delayed harvest streams years ago. Yes I still go with friends on trips but when I go by myself, I almost never fish one. I am a self-professed wild brook trout junkie and go to great lengths to get far into the wilderness.
I got to the point where I didn't like fishing for stocked fish because I didn't know if it was my highly refined fishing prowess that caught the fish ( )...or if the fish accidently bumped into my obviously badly presented and drifting fly.
I just prefer to fish for fish that the allmighty put there, not a man.
Exception to the rule: those fish that the Pisgah hatchery raises are pretty darn beautiful though. I like fishing for them on the Nantahala...but that is usually a brief excursion from a planned trip to Eagle Creek.
