OLD SCHOOL vs. YOUNG BLOOD
Im starting this thread with great trepidation.
Moderators and Administrators please yank this the moment it gets out of hand (if it does). But I hope we can be civil and see some humor and watch the dynamic and find it entertaining with out resorting to insults and attaching emotion to our opinions. Remember its just fishing, and its just a fish. In the end its the trivial aspect of it all that makes it so enjoyable.
So...with that said, Let me hear your rants and tyrades about how the sport is diminishing and/or improving. Let me hear how its changing. What is the future? Let me hear the nostalgia of the good ole days, and the excitment about the days to come.
Peace and Fish to all.
Riparian

I think it is doing well. Plenty of water, especially if you are willing to hike a bit and get away from the tourists. I like the fact that it has grown and allows a lot of people to make a living at it. I'm fairly new to the sport, but I love it. I wish I had found it earlier in life.

I hate Delayed Harvest. I mean it is the whole lipstick on a pig deal. They are still hatchery fish and what makes it worse is that some folks feel they are fulfilling some sort of higher purpose because it is Catch and Release.
I've fished DH a lot in recent years and what limited fishing ability I did have has gone down the toilet. I don't know what's hatching. I don't stalk my prey. If I catch, I think I'm skilled, if not, it's all poached out. I'm close to taking a pledge never to fish DH again.
With all that said, I think from a resource management standpoint it is a wonderful program. It's a real multiplier and the number of fish caught far exceeds the number stocked. I've just lost what little skill I've had.
Riparian, don't know if that meets your intent, but that's my rant.

Thats perfect.
I like the DH for beginners and I love it for work (though thats kind of selfish), and some days I love just not having to work for a fish, but Ive always wondered why the dont just put smallies in some of them and have a year round fishery, course they may not be suited to that either.

I preach tolerance of the old school and the young bloods. Why should we have to choose between the two? I am all for whatever makes the individual fisher happy. Be your own man and do what makes you happy. If that means fishing with powerbait, as long as you are within the regs, I don't think of you any differently than if you only fish dries on 7x tippett. Trout fishing is a personal journey as much as anything.

I love DH because it keeps so many people away from the wild streams that I love and almost always have to myself.
Also, once season opens, I can hit DH and not feel guilty for keeping a few trout for the frying pan. I have never killed a wild trout and not sure if I could.
One thing I like today is that more people practice catch and release than years ago. Yes, there are poachers and those that keep everything they catch and there always will be.
Litter bugs are everywhere, but I do feel that littering today is less popular than it was years ago.

I would have liked to see and fish the SNP before the Chestnut and Hemlock trees went away.

The thing about DH fishing is, if you wanna get down to it, even those huge browns spawning in the SOHO should be unacceptable to a true purist. A true Traditionalist should only fish for native brookies in small mt streams. So I dont care if you take pictures of every meal you eat and hippie beer that you drank stream side (ok I lied, that really pisses me off haha), wear your Filson wax wading coat, wear your orvis cowboy hat complete with underwear set, fish your Hardy Bamboo rod complete with silk line and #14 Quill Gordon fishing only to rising fish and show me every little 8" trout you catch via message board pictures. JUST DO IT DUDE! I dont care if you throw in a pinch of Cope, grab your ole dirty rubber hip waders out of the back of your truck, reach in the front seat and grab a 6-pack of Natty, string up your Scientific Strangler 6 weight complete with Chinese tied wooly bugger and step on down to the local DH water, JUST DO IT DUDE! Thats the thing guys, you can do what ever you want (check your local fishing regulations). Just don't get pissed if I do something else than you. And PS, I dont care what you had for breakfast or what Hippie beer you drank. Keep that stuff to you self.
