I am looking for a few books that cover the North Carolina and Georgia areas for fly fishing history. Experiences, etc....something in the lines of Jim Gasque's book Hunting and Fishing in the Smokey Mountains. I enjoyed reading this giving the history of the area and what it was like.

Also, anything that covers some of the great authors of the past like Hemingway and their experiences fly fishing. Any suggestions to wet the app while I am unable to be up there fishing.

You might check out Don and Kevin Howell's book on traditional fly tying and fishing in the southern appalachians. Kevin is at Davidson River Outfitters. Horace Kephart wrote Our Southern Highlanders. You might enjoy it. It is a general study. It is not about fishing.It does provide background information on the people and practices of the region.

Picked up several copies of Jim Casada's new book on the Smokies for resale and have been flipping thru one of the copies. Very nice book on the Smokies with lots of historical info and references to other books and many of the early fishermen in the area before and after the area became a national park. Lots of stream info and some neat graphs that show elevation gain on each stream. Also some old photos of the area, and some new ones. I thought it is a very good read and full of practical info for folks fishing and hiking the Smokies. Available in soft and hard cover, autographed by Jim.
