Olyn Shytle

For his consistent and valued contributions to this fly fishing community, The Southeast Fly Fishing Forum is pleased to induct the Reverend Olyn D. Shytle into the SEFFF Hall of Fame.

Since the creation of this forum and its predecessor, “Olyns” has offered all of our members his enthusiasm, grace, friendship, and faith in immeasurable abundance. His steadfast spiritual optimism has lifted and comforted all of us by his words and by his actions. He has shown himself to be the rock upon which many of us have leaned during times of loss and grief, and his joyous celebrations of our triumphs in life and onstream are genuine and selfless.

“Big O” has also been a catalyst for many discussions and actions in the realm of conservation relative to the safeguarding, preservation, and strengthening of habitat and resources, furthering the idea that we are the guardians of the fly fishing legacies passed down to us, and that those things which we enjoy in our pursuit of fish on the long rod must be protected by those who cherish them.

His business card touts him as “Fly Fishing Buddy Extraordinaire” and promises “Expert Advice and a Laugh a Minute”. We couldn’t agree more.

For his unabashed and abiding faith, his calm in the face of his own tribulations, for his enthusiastic devotion to fly fishing, and for his selfless contributions to the community as a whole, we hereby present the first inductee into the Southeast Fly Fishing Forum Hall of Fame, the Reverend Olyn D. Shytle.

Olyns recently helped me get through the passing of my father, he has provided strength and humour when it most counted. This award is so well deserved. I can't thank those responsible enough. God Bless You, Charlie

"TOP HAT" not since the show of honor given to the one I called "The Southern Gentleman" Brent G. have I been honored to know such a man. Big O your story of Faith has been told among the pews where it is taught --the classroom--along the shores of those rivers and streams we all love--around the campfires of friends .I have tried to follow the footprints in the sand and I agree to the show of honor from those that we call Friends. Shine on.... shine on

This is a well deserved award for Olyn. He has been the one that has kept us incheck a few times when we need it. Even though I have never met him he seems to be a great person.

I 2nd, 3rd & 4th that well deserved nomination. Olyns was around when I joined the other board and I remember him well. Always a kind word for all and and counsel to those of us who get wrapped up in ourselves at times. I have only met him a few times but every time was an honor.

Hang in there big O, you have a lot of friends pulling for you.
