one for the pops...

got a call from my mom and she said to order everything i needed to make my dad a fly rod for christmas...so never the one to build a new rod i finished this one a few weeks back...i just wish she would go ahead and give it to him so i can see how it performs...

I use dry flies...why just for the chance of the perfect cast, perfect drift, just to see it disappear...and then FISH ON!!!!

I really like the hook "bling". Let us know how he likes it....of course you really shouldn't give it to him without proving that it works properly

Come on, now, you've gotta tell us the blank name, weight and length.

I'm sure he'll prize it. Arrange to take him fishing the day after Christmas. Fishing will be a bit slow, but they will still be biting....

sorry about that... Forecast 7'6" 4wt 4 piece...i thought about taking it out but figured id better let him break it in...i know its a good setup...built one for myself a few months ago...here are some test subjects...

You know the first rod I made (a spinning rod on a lamiglass blank) was for my father. He was very proud of it although now that I know a little more about rod building I see the obvious flaws in it. Nevertheless, while at his Lake Norman cottage, he'd take that rod and his gimlet down to the dock and relax during that magic hour of twilight that precedes dinner. Dad passed away in 99 and recently I gave that rod to my son.

Long and short of it is that your dad will cherish that rod.
