STIMS AND oCTOBER cADDIS
Try tying with floss or just the thread.
On my october caddis I try to get away with the Orange thread tied body with latex clear over lap. I will add a little antron dubbing for the head.( Orange)

Josh,
While looking through a British site this evening, I came across an excellent dubbing tutorial that you may want to read through. Since you are a newcomer to tying, it may help answer any questions you may have. It is also a good refresher course for any of you old timers out there.

Floss gets my vote in most case on this fly its easy and you can weave a pattern in it if you want seal it before you palmer and bullet proof.Be sure thought to seperate your strands of floss to a single strand instead using it out of the box.

Yes it does. Both colors.
But you'd be far wiser to listen to Cyberfish about how he ties them.

If this post is still about stimulator dubbing I can make a couple of suggestions for finishing your fly. By now, thanks to some experience and wisdom, you have have an abdomen foamed, threaded, dubbed, or flossed and have winged it. Now you need to consider a contrasting or imitative color for your thorax. If you are thinking orange which I think is a good choice, try mixing red and yellow hair clipped from cross 0r straight cut rabbit strips and combine them with orange antron dubbing. Just combine it by hand. Another very easy and effective thorax is peacock hurls.
For very small stimulators I dub the thorax with dyed fibers stripped from cdc feathers.
Have fun!

If you go with yarn make sure it it 100% acrylic. I also pre treat mine with some type of waterproofing spray, ie silicone, camp dry, etc. Works great for me. And I second separating the yarn into individual threads for smaller flies. You can tie one quick fly with yarn.
