First of all, thanks to DD for his strawbossin' efforts.
I think for the first time ever, I spent more time watching than tying, and I tied a LOT of flies, and gave them away, pretty much like always. I enjoyed teaching a few folks a few new skills, and tricks, but watching Steve Yates, Riverman, JT, Bamboo10, Disco, Teachertec, Smokey, PHG, and others was a delight.
I have to say that I got the biggest thrill watching my son soak up all those skills that so many of you were willing to teach him. Thank you so much. I think he's got some talent, but y'all really have amped his skillset.
Here are a few takes:
Disco and his new high $$$ fishing sled. Hospital neat, though. Gotta fix that.
Good coffee and catching up on Friday night.
Dinner with Olyns and Saint Sandy. What a delight to see him out and about with that old familiar twinkle in his eyes. And a motorized wheelchair in which he races madly about. Watch your toes around the speedy Big O.
Tying at a leisurely and conversational pace. Learning to relax, watch and listen more. I learn more that way. Thanks
for the lesson, Peewee.
Missing Ralph. Noth the same without you, big guy. Our thoughts and prayers were with you.
Sat. trip to the show. Not much in the way of product intros or deep discounts, but great tyers and seminars. I tied a few flies at the CFFC booth, but was tickled to watch C McStreamer at 14 teaching kids how to tie their first fly. He did a great job of helping the younger kids relax and walk away with a fly that they tied of their very own, Nice work, buddy.
Back to the hotel for Sat. night lyin', tyin', meetin' & greetin'. Spun some hair and spun some yarns.
Rooming with Billres and Disco is always a treat. Our room always sounds like a summer camp cabin for 8th graders. Lots of laughs, and a little mischief and drama. Good friends.
Sunday a.m. and a few quiet minutes with my friend, Riverman. Then we talked with Overbooked about the upcoming Dads & Kids weekend in April, and discussed the neurotic aspects of tying flies. Okay.....MY neurosis anyway.
Colin and I took the scenic leisurely drive home, stopped for some good 'cue at Blue Mist, and made it to Cary around 1:30 or so.
Thanks to everyone who made it a special weekend for ma nad my son. We had a blast, and we'll be back.
Here's a few pics of a few tyers.
Devinsdad flinging some Flashdancers
Jason "The Mad Scientist" Baker
Disco pumping out a plethora of poppers.
C McStreamer in focus.
....and teaching his Macaw Nymph to DD.
gqualls tying flies so small that I can't see 'em.
Teachertec fast-spinning his bugs on his turbo-charged Norvise. Hey, Brad....that thang got a Hemi?
PHG.......tying the classics.
Once again Brandy brought her charms to the room.
Finally, the general consensus about this year's Lyin' & Tyin'.
Thanks to everyone who made it a success.
