Question about kids/dads show fishing....

I guess I was just assuming....this is going to be trout fishing? can anyone give me a lowdown on what all is available there...and perhaps even basic fly suggestions? The good folks at Round Rocks anglers were kind enough to throw in a dozen and a half pink and purple flies when I ordered J's reel and vest....and I've tied her up a bunch of pink flies ....but most of this was on the assumtion that we were fishing a small to medium sized stream for stockers? Since I missed out last year...I'm really kind of in the dark here.

You'll be camping on Helton Creek. This is a DH stream. Yes they will be stockers, but they've been exercised a good bit by now, and should be getting wary.

Spring DH dry flies should include EHC, Royal Wulff, Yellow Sally. Also, Brown Drakes have been hatching, so you might want to throw in a couple of them, size 12. Nymphs should include BH Hare's Ear, BH Prince, BH Pheasant Tail.
Streamers, don't go without some black woolybuggers!

Colin has tied up some black WB's for the trip. His streamside price is $14.00 each.

Eggs worked well last year for the McStreamer Boys. Me? I'm a green soft hackle kinda guy on that water.

Do what you always do, Tom. Tie up a kajillion different flies and bring 'em all. We'll all help ya sort 'em out.

O.K. thanks guys...as I mentioned...J now has a small purple bug luggage box full of pink and purple bugs...its not so important that they work...as long as they are pink and purple ....I'll bring some of my stuff too....just in case the fish are'nt down with the pink and purple theme

P.S. Jule...I got the goods and seems they know about "streamside prices" too

Can't wait to see everyone....after being cooped up in a motel room for 5 days this weekend is sounding better and better!

Is it friday yet?

OK you guys -- I cannot resist another post. Them DH fish have been pounded, yes. I fish Helton's some.

Sometimes the larger fish that have looked at lots of flies will hit a little copper john dropper (18 or 20) or a little Prince fished on a dropper below a larger PT or Hare's Ear or any other fly that they see on a regular basis. They come up to look at the big nymph, and usually take the little one.

I don't care for egg patterns. I have some, but find that more DH fish who have been there for awhile will bite on small trailer nymphs. Maybe it's just me -- I dunno.

I also do not like the way trout take an egg pattern. They tend to inhale it deep if they decide to bite it. It doesn't really matter if you kill DH fish, I suppose, but I'd rather catch 'em in the lips and let 'em go.
