Raft Anchor?

Does anyone know a place near Sylva/Cherokee/Asheville where I can find a 3-sided pyramid raft anchor? Or an equivalent? Thanks! I appreciate it.

They actually can't get you a raft anchor but.....

The best thing to do is call Clackacraft and have them send you one. I am the Head Fishing Guide at the NOC and we don't sell anything that will stop a raft with a frame or a drift boat. I actually had to get a new anchor this year and went through Clackacraft. With shipping, they are about $100.00 There isn't really a market for drift boat anchors around here, so no one keeps them in stock that I've seen.

If you need an anchor asap, and don't have time to wait. I would suggest going to Walmart and buying a 15 pound mushroom anchor. They are less than 20 bucks. Then go to Dicks Sporting Goods (Asheville) and buy two 10 pound weight plates that will fit an Olympic style bar (make sure the plates have the larger openings)

Step two: place the two weight plates on the anchor stem and there is a 35 pound anchor that will anchor a drift boat.

I would take credit for this invention, but it was a friend that came up with this. After losing numerous 100 dollar anchors he opted for the cheaper route.

He uses his on a Hog island, so if it will hold a Hog it will hold anything. I have also used one with my skiff, works great.

Anchor -- thanks

Thanks guys. I appreciate your efforts. I didn't want to contact Clacka, but I just may have to. Some friends of mine left their anchor at a landing somewhere near Asheville. I'll tell them to go the Wal-mart route. That'll learn 'em. Thanks again.

I've used a mushroom anchor for years and been just fine holding a raft.

Anchor Chain

while I have not done this myself(yet), I met a guide in Radford,VA that had a raft with an anchor made out of 3 or 4 heavy metal chain link that he laid out together and wrapped in duct tape to hold them together. It kinda looked like a real thick worm, about 1.5 feet long. It wasn't pretty, but the guide said it would hold his raft and not get hung up in the rocks of the New River. Bob
