Hey I just bought a used Okuma Sierra reel on ebay and am trying to convert it from right to left (or vice versa) and can't for the life of me figure it out. Maybe I'm a moron, but I don't see how to convert it short of prying the bearing race out of the spool . Can anyone help?
most reels i've fiddled with involve reversing the bearing set

Hi. I just changed a Cascade, and all you have to do is turn the bearing over. The bearing is not a press fit, it is just snug. I used a small pick and pushed it out and turned it over. Hope this helps.
brainiac is right..you should just have to flip the central bearing over (the big gear in the middle).. I have one sitting around somewhere. I'll try to find it tomorrow sometime for you. I want to say there is a piece that overhangs it and you might have to remove it to flip the bearing over, but could be wrong on that. I'll try to look tomorrow for you. -Drew
The pin/roller bearing needs to be flipped. It's contained in a black housing that will pull out of the reel. Try to grip/pry the black housing from several spots on the lip of the housing. If you pry in just one spot, part of the lip is likely to break off. Okuma usually includes a bearing puller with the reels that will grip about half of the lip surface and making removal easy.
Once you have the black housing out, push the bearing assembly out of the housing and flip it 180 degrees and re-insert.( Usually, I can use a finger tip to push the bearing out). Then slide the housing back into the reel and it should be reversed.
