Ross Flystart reel

Anyone have any experience with this reel? So cheap and looks lovely. I have fondled them at the local shop, and it seems solid, but one usually gets what they pay for....

I purchased one for a 7 wt. rod that I knew I wouldn't use all that much and didn't want to spend too much on the combo. I have really been impressed with the solid construction and performance. It doesn't have a fancy drag system but unless you plan to fight big saltwater fish I don't think it matters. All in all a great reel for the money and backed by Ross's wonderful customer service. The only down side, if it really is one, is that they aren't made in the good ole' USA. Good luck.

It's a pretty sweet reel for anyone else interested. I dropped the $40 for one for my 4 wt and it works great. It got some field use the other day when my SAGE reel crapped out on me and I used the Fly Start to wrangler some large rainbows. Like stated, the drag isn't all that but everyone knows real men palm it. It is constructed very well for the money, I'm sure I'll buy another when the need arises.

i have other models of ross reels and all have been spectacular, but i dont think the "ROSS" name would be put on junk or an inferior product no matter where it was made.

Becasue it is Ross, I'm not concerned with the reel but doesn't it also come with fly line pre-spooled on the reel? Is the fly line that comes with it any good? (I have a couple rods on the bench and could possibly need one reel and line.)

you can buy it both ways:fly reel only or fly reel outfit (reel, backing & flyline)

see the ross worldwide web site.

I was looking at the prespooled reel from Cabelas for $65 dollars. Sounds like from what I am seeing here that is a pretty sweet deal.
