I have, but I don't have pics.
Without going in to the long story, I built a rod for my sister. Since it was a surprise I asked her what her favorite color was. Her answer: periwinkle. My response: periwhat?
Anyhow I enlisted the help of a local sewing store who found me some periwinkle silk thread and matched it with some coral colored silk that I used for tipping. Diameter was a little heavy but it turned out well.
Nylon and silk work well but cotton thread should never be used. I would suspect that you would want to use a color preserver, which I did, if you wanted to retain any color. Without the preserver the silk would take on the color of the blank particularly if it was a black one.
