SNP

How would you rate the fishing here in Jan Feb and March?

I'm trying to get some info on conditions for a trip.

Thanks,

- Brk Trt

The fishing can be good if we get an exceptionally late indian summer. I know that some people on here have a tradition of fishing New Years Day, and are quite often succesful.February and March are usually pretty brutal with non moving water locked up in ice. However, you will start to get a few warmer days towards the end of March and this is when the Mayflies first start to show up.

I would say your luck at fishing on those months would largely be determined by luck of warmer weather.

If you get some nice days then it can be productive. We often get warm fronts that move in and give us 2-4 nice days ina row. Usually by the second dayt eh fish are responding well to nymphs and dries in the afternoon. Then by the third day they will often be looking up regularly. I tyically use a dry/dropper rig with a Royal Wulff or EHC on the surface and a bead head green or pink weenie down low. Also running nymphs through deep pools will often bring up a nice fish or two. If the weather is real cold I don't even bother, the fish develop lockjaw then--Larry

I've caught some of my best SNP fish during winter months...best of all, no snakes, ticks, or bears.

It can be very good nymph fishing. We have some pretty warm days in the winter usually and I've seen early stonefly hatches in February and blue quills not far behind. Definitely worth fishing.

Gents,

Thanks for the info.

I'm not fond of snakes, so the colder months are my choice.
