i agree the 25 year deal by orvis is hard to beat. my 4wt orvis tls gets most of my casts.
ll bean also has decent rods if you go with their double l classic line. these are g loomis blanks with the guides put on at ll bean. if you go to a llbean store you will see that about 50-60% of the rods have loomis stickers on the handles. for the buck they fish quite well. i have one in 6wt.

I like the Orvis rods;especially the T3. I have had several St. Croix rods and I fish them often, but I don't like them as well as Orvis or the Sage rods I have cast. I think $350.00 for a rod without an unconditional lifetime warranty is too much. Plus they don't have the same beauty.

I own a Scott G,White River Ultralite and an old shakespeare glass rod....I have cast alot of different rods and I gotta say I really like the Scott and the Orvis rods for my style of casting....the white river rods give a good bang for the buck.....I wouldnt mind getting into some older glass or split cane, not really for the castability but for the more intense fight.....

All my rods are Scott. Not only do i love the way they cast, but i really like the company;s philosophy. They are a small co. about 30 people, all the rods are hand made and none of them are made overseas. I talked with someone from the company and was told that they would only sale trough the small shops, and had no intentions of selling their rods through the big box stores. And they only make fly rods, nothing else. They concentrate on the rods. Lifetime warranty also.

Amen to that! Although I just picked up a Winston for my Salt trip and it is nice. But I take Scotts any day bar none.

i have a scott, a winston, and a g.loomis. i love them all, but this year i managed to break first the scott and then the winston. sent them in for their life time warranty repair and both were fixed, if not super quick. both needed top two sections replaced. the winston is awesome, but the scott came back dirty and stained and had sealant on the guides in drops. it doesn't effect the casting so i just left it instead of sending it back. To be honest, I love scott and the philosophy and such, but was extremely disappointed with the repair. I am sure it will affect my rod buying decisions in the future.

Favorite Rod Company
The Shelbyville Rod Company is a smallish company in Hastings, MI that has been in business over 20 years and makes some fantastic rods. From moderate action to extra fast. I refer to them as the "micro-brewery" of the rod industry. www.shelbyvillerodco.com. If you ever have a chance to cast one you will be impressed. Their Prism-X model is the one I fish primarily and it has a very traditional feel. The Joule was launched last year and it is a bit faster with a thinner taper. Check 'em out.

So many good rods out there. Most of my current rods are Loomis and I like them a lot. Very light with a god tip, yet have the punch when you need it.
Recently I had a chance to fish a 9wt Loop rod. Never heard of them, but this rod was probably the best feeling rod I ever cast; and I was totin a 9wt Loomis GLX CrossCurrent at the time, which is also an excellent rod. Anyone else come accross a Loop rod?
