Favorite rod company

Trout Dancer Rod Company LLC

A Winston LT, 8'-3", 4 wt was the best rod I had touched until I got bamboozled.

I've always been partial to St. Croix. It's a sweet rod that doesn't have to cost you an arm and a leg. I've tried Winston and Scott in local flyshops from time to time, but never actually had the moolahs laying around to purchase one and actually fish with it.

Excellent choice. I got to fish a friend's 7'6" Browntone in SW Wisconsin a couple of weeks ago before all **** broke loose there with the flooding.

Have to go with Orvis

I have a Scott A2 6'-6" 3wt, Orvis Superfine 7'-6" 4wt, Orvis Clearwater Clasic 8'-6"" 4wt, Orvis Clearwater 7'-9" 5wt and Sage VT 9' 7wt for warm water. All are great rods for the type of fishing each is designed for. I really like the Scott on brookie streams but the Orvis rods are used more than any. Plus I have local Orvis dealer in area and two shops in Roanoke or Sevierville within a couple hours drive. That said I'm getting ready to purchase a 9' 5wt for tailwater fishing and I'm looking at Winston BIIX, Sage ZXL and Orvis Helios. Cast both the Winston and Orvis and liked the Helios better. Haven't cast the ZXL but have heard great things about it.

I am still a novice and have not been able to get anything really expensive. My first rod was a Phleuger which was OK to learn on. I got a 3 wt 7 ft Cortland rod that I seem to use the most now. I bought a Berkley fly rod several years ago but did not fish it. I am seriously thinking about getting a nice rod this year and fish more. I have been looking at the Orvis Clearwater and the TFO finesse rods. We will see...
