South Mountain 5/29

Went to south mountain park sunday and got there about 9am. As soon as I got there i started at the back parking lot and caught several nice brookies. Then hiked upstream and fished on the way up and caught a lot more nice brookies. After walking up for a while turned around and walked back down fishing again on the way back and caught several other nice brookies and a few nice small browns and bows. I had a very fun day, that is untill all the kids got there and started stomping around in the stream and throwing rocks in the water scaring everything within sight. So I hiked back downstream and fished more and caught more. All together probably caught 30 between 9am and 2:30pm. Unfortunately I left my camera back at home so no pics. It was a very nice day and was my most successful day yet. I am definately hooked now. Is too bad this is going to be the last weekend before the "worm drowners" come in there and tear the place up, but hopefully they will get tired of it after a couple weeks and can go back in there. Just curious after the stream becomes HS are they going to stock the stream anymore every month or more often or less?? Also where do you gain access to the wild streams in the park???

Re: South Mountain 5/29

Glad you were able to get um while there in there.

Here is the NC Wildlife page on stocking Jacob's Fork, it doesn't look like they are planning to stock during the summer, strange I would think that such a popular stream would receive additional stocking during those months. http://216.27.49.98/pg03_Fishing/sto...tock_burke.pdf

Re: South Mountain 5/29

South Mountain stocked stream, Jacobs Fork, gets low water levels in the summer. Not sure if that is why they do not stock, but I have doubts of the ability of stockers to survive with so little water and the warmer temps. For the fishermen, it would be fishing out of a barrel with just a few holes to hold the fish.
