suggestions for a first timer????

I've been fishing the N.C. rivers for years now and I'd like to fish some new water. Never been to the Smokies and I'd like to get some ideas for a camp/fish trip.... 2-4 days around the middle of Nov. Don't mind hiking a bit to get to some good fishing, but I don't especially want to have a 5 mile hike in.....gettin' old.......

Thanks
Steve

Just about any of the campgrounds like Deep Creek, Smokemont, Big Creek, or Elkmont over here on the Tennessee side will give you great stream access on fairly easy trails. You can walk as far or as little as you want and still catch fish, and I doubt that you'll have much company on the stream. It's a great time to fish, but fallen leaves can make the wading a bit dicey if you don't pay attention.

Thanks CB, Do you have a favorite campground or do they all have their good/bad points?? I'll be heading up from Cola. thru Asheville, so easiest to get to might come into play.

Thanks
Steve

Actually, after reading back when you're planning to come, Elkmont and Smokemont are the only campgrounds open past October 31st--Elkmont closes at the end of November, while Smokemont stays open year round. You're in luck, though--both are on really nice streams.

Smokemont will probably be a little closer to you, and has the advantage of being close to waters outside the Park like the Lufftee and Tuck that might fish a little better if it's cold.

Better bring plenty of layers and dress warm. It gets cold up at elevation where Smokemont is.
