Reckon if you will melt the mono a bit to little balls at the tie in point you could skip the zap a gap altogether? They won't pull free under tight thread wraps.
Great fly!

Very nice looking tye. I'm sure it's a fish catcher as well.

I've got a question, though. Does this style of fly qualify as a single hook lure? I can see that it would be considered akin to a dry/dropper setup since it is two separate hooks and be OK. I can also see that a warden-type may interpret it as a multiple point, single lure. Thanks for any thoughts or knowledge of how the local DNR(s) interpret it.

Cheers

I'm pretty sure most "warden types" are gonna see this as a multiple hook fly.....but you can nip the front hook off at the bend and still get the action.

it is a multiple hook fly...

however, after giving many of these out and fishing them myself, most of your fish are going to be on the front hook. Meaning they are either attacking the fly from the side or headfirst. So eliminating the front hook means you're going to miss some of these fish.

On the flip side of that, galloup swears that the rear hook works as a keel and makes the fly ride correctly in the water.

ahhh trade offs

Not to be a smart arse or anything but a nickle says i can pull your rear hook off. not saying the fly won't fish, i'm sure it will but the connection isn't gonna hold up to a big boy. Get some american' fishing wire stainless steel wire in about 17-20 lb and wrap it up to the eye then down through and all the way to the back again. Thats the way Kelly does em and thats the way I do em, they also sell some smaller beads in the craft dept at walmart that you might wanna look into. You've got the design of the fly down well but i think you'll find a more durable and fishable pattern once you switch to the american fishing wire for your articulation. This is my shad version of the Jimmy

Nice fly nice tutorial. Just got Kelly Galloup's book, so it's very interesting to me. Makes tying this streamer very clear.
