Sir, I am also based in Richmond/Goochland and would love a couple of vague hints at some spring creeks to visit. Not looking for specifics as i love the hunt as much as catching. Would you mind pointing me in a general direction? Are these private waters in the valley or spec reg public. Up valley or down? You can send me a message at lgciv@aol.com

Thanks,
Lee

Nice report Marty, this time of year it's hard not to get spring creek fever. I've been trying to tame the addiction, but that latter stream has been my downfall.

Been catching 3-4 very small guys each visit. And they look a lot better than the fingerlings they usually put in every fall.

But yeah, lots of this:

Tyler I saw your report on Teh Suck. You da man. Perhaps more accurately, WE da man. Let me know when you're going out next...I am ITCHIN to get some video. The big rainbow I snatched up on Wednesday would have been perfect streaming video fodder as he came up in slow-mo from the depths and sucked down a green Madam X as if no one was watching. And Dan's big bow was doing much the same. Shoot, that pretty brown about halfway through this report slurped a yellow hopper without a care in the world. I'm sure you know exactly what I mean...holler.

FYI both are public water. Neither is a secret, and the latter is pretty heavily promoted by VDGIF and one fly shop in Harrisonburg.

Let's do that fer sure. I had the perfect vantage point to shoot that big bow of yours and it would have made a cool video. We know where he lives, so let's visit him again soon and see if he'll show off for a video camera.

FYI, I've decided to put off the visit to the folks till Sunday and am planning on heading back out there tomorrow morning...I've got the itch as bad as you guys.

Pretty fish! You can't help where the fish is hooked. The object is to catch them. Every now and then one will be hooked in soft tissue or the gills. The odds are those will die, but that is the nature of this sport. As far as cutting the fly off a deep hooked fish I don't see the point. He will just die with the fly in his throat. He is just as dead and you are one fly short. Anyway, great report and I am going to have to fish a spring creek one of these days.

Hey Mr FTG glad my comment came across as intended - purely an observation on how some larger fish will "inhale" a good fly presented well when the conditions are right - we all deserve a day like that now and again - rather than the delicate drifts with small dries or nymphs to fish that are sipping in a swirling currents.

Will be hitting spring creek in a weeks time out west and can't wait - hopefully I'll find some to compare with yours
