On Saturday morning I embarked on my first full week vacation in about 2 years. Due to some unforseen circumstances, this turned out to be a solo adventure. So, having no clear plan in mind, I loaded the truck full of fishing and camping gear and pointed myself west. About 3 hours later I found myself at the big tailwater near Covington:
I don't know this river very well and found the fishing pretty tough. I started off on Saturday afternoon up near the dam and managed a few small, wild bows but nothing of any size. On Sunday, I tried a different access point and fought the wind for most of the day. I did manage a couple decent browns at this spot:
I decided it was time for a change of scenery, some more familiar surroundings and some better fishing. With this in mind I made my way Southwest to an old favorite. This one sure is pretty:
I spent Monday and Tuesday tossing stimulators and big stonefly nymphs. A bunch of little guys were fooled by the stimi:
While some better fish fell to the stonefly:
Did I mention that I was camping alone?? After 4 days with nobody but myself for company, I decided to have a party. So I built a rippin' fire, got drunk and howled at the moon. Mission accomplished:
On Wednesday, I awoke early (with a sore head) and pointed myself in the direction of the Northeast TN tailwater. You know the one:
Fishing was awesome on Wednesday and Thursday. Many fish were duped by both split-case nymphs and sulphur nymphs:
The Sulphurs started poppin' around 11:30 - 12:00 both days:
And I managed a few on a cdc comparadun before the generation from the dam ran me off the river:
Tiring of my own company, I decided enough was enough and made my way back to Richmond, thus ending my solitary adventure.
