Upper Nantahala

A word for anyone planning to fish the Upper Nan - Don't.

Okay - two words - You can't.

Essentially the link below says they are releasing water from the lake through the main flow. They can't use the pipe to the powerhouse as they are doing some work there and the powerhouse is down until the end of the year. It seems this release will continue for an indefinite period of time, depending on how much rain we get.

I saw the water today and it is a mad raging river. But the paddlers are having a great time at the cascades just below River Road.

It sounds like there will be a surplus of fish below the powerhouse if the water keeps flushing out the upper Nanny. Peddlepaddle

upstream....but like any water associated with a manmade lake, they gotta do maintenance eventually which is gonna take changes in the flow. Better to do preventive maintenance than have a failure

Oh, I understand. Just disappointed; a few fall/Holiday trips to the Nanty have become routine, with good fishing and a chance to catch up with some old friends, etc.

Have to think about Peddlepaddle's version of making lemonade.

Did they do normal stocking?

In October they didn't stock it the first week. I never got around to checking the report after that. I heard some reports of slow fishing in October so I question as to whether they did a partial or any stocking for that matter. Or maybe they did a full stocking and the fishing was just slow for other reasons. From what I saw on Monday, it would be a waste of 3,000 fish to stock it now.
