Thumbs up Watuaga Pics!!

Friday morning my dad and i went to the watuaga river for some good fly fishing. We got there at about 1:00 p.m. and set up camp and ate lunch. We also saw Randy(Gonefishin) float by with what looked like a couple of clients. After we were all set up we rigged our fly rods with a peacok bodied elk hair caddis and went up river. We camped at river ridge so we went up to the bridge. We stayed for a while with out a bite so we took a 30 minute break. Then went down to the caddis riffle. Right when we got down to where the faster water just started we hooked many fish but only got 3 in total. 1 for my dad 2 for me. On the second day we went back to the caddis riffle and the black caddis were coming off but not as much as the day before. We got lots of fish after finally swithching to black elk hair caddis. At probably 4:00 p.m. David(Sleepytrout) showed up and we fished with him for a while. That day we caught many fish and went in about 6:00 p.m. cause there was nothing else hatching. On our 3rd day we got out at about 7 in the morning and the caddis started just pouring out at 8:00 a.m.. They were so thick without my hat on it felt like it way raining caddis. The day before we had lost all our black elk hair caddis. So i tied on an imitation that ben(OTS) gave me. Clipped off the tail and i caught probably 8-9 fish on it. But the last fish was the best. I decided to cast closer to the bank (dad told me to try it) in slower water and i saw the mouth of an 18 inch brown come up and take my fly. I set the hook and the fight was on. We got him in, took some pics, let him go and left to get back to raliegh.

Emery and Sandman(Don)

It was good to see you both. Yes those were clients and they had a good day fishing the caddis hatch with some nice fish to boot.

Thanks for the invite to fish with you, but I had family matters come up and went to Ohio.

The caddis hatch has been great and I am glad you got to get in on it.
