It's probably one of my top five.

Another one that I've eaten at that I thought was pretty good was Deano's in Mocksville.

This is easy. The best BBQ is Mama Browns in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Dang Eugene. Now I gotta swing by Pig Out for some ribs.

Just for the record, the joint in Brevard is the "HAWG WILD" not hog. Would hate for you to google it and miss it. And in my mind, the building in which it resides would be absolute perfection if they could open a small liquor store in the middle of it. As it stands now, you have 'Hawg Wild' on one end and Davison River Outfitters on the other! What more could one ask? And after fishing the D and eating some great BBQ, you can wander down to overlook DRO's private section and watch the big fish feed.

As for eastern Carolina vs other types of BBQ, ever hear of the "tomato line"? I learned about it on a PBS program about BBQ. Briefly, think about the timeline of colonization of North America then overlap that with slavery (the meats and cooking style) and the almost overnight change in the belief that tomatoes were poisonous. Sir Walter Raleigh stood in front of Parliament and ate one to the astonishment of the house when he did not die. So, as tomatoes were quickly introduced into the new world, the tomato line forms where the new settlers used tomato based sauces rather than the vinegar and other sauce bases east of the line. Those east of the tomato line could have gone tomato, but by then they had the earler tradition.

They also talked about how as you go further west you hit the beef producers and that BBQ and so forth. Fun program.

I spent the first 35 years of my life in Alabama, eating Dreamland ribs every chance I got.

Then I moved to NC 10 years ago and learned that in NC, if you beat the @#! out of a pork shoulder, turn it to a mushy consistency, and sprinkle some vinegar on it - it's called BBQ?

Can't wait for the Alabama/Arkansas game this weekend. There's a stop at Dreamland for me on Friday.

I beg to differ Doc, although I enjoy Maurice's. If you're ever traveling down I-26 and you look up and see a sign that says "Jalapa", take it. Continue down the road and then take a left on 76. Wise's BBQ is the place and open only Thursday through Saturday I believe. You won't be disappointed.

Either Shealy's BBQ in Batesburg-Leesville, SC or Farm Boys Barbeque in Chapin, SC. I'd have to pass on Maurice's... we don't support him because of some of the beliefs that he holds
