Wilson Creek

I'm heading out to Wilson Creek tomorrow. Never fished it before, anybody having any luck out there this week. Went to the Appy State game up there today and watched em kill Georgia Southern!

Wilson Creek

Fished it the other day for the 2nd time ever. Steady action throughout the day on Copper Johns and Prince Nymphs. My buddies caught them using stimulator dries.

Great dry dropper water, many sight fishing ops due to water clarity.

Don't be afraid to rip some streamers through the holes. There are some really hungry brooks in there.

Its worth the trip.

Any luck from anyone who went? I went Saturday and the water was crazy. Decided to hit some wild waters which looked alot better. Managed a beautiful wild brown. I didnt notice the sun bleached most of the pic until I let her go. Will do better next time

Shot a short vid of her in recovery

Went Tue. Rained the entire time! Raingear held till almost dark. Fished right around Lost Cove confluence. Got about 10 or so, missed more. 2 other folks fishing. I ended up fishing behind them, just too lazy to get back in the truck. Caught a few on a 12 BHFBHE, caught most stripping a white wolly bugger. Fishes of the day were 14 and 15" brookies. No pics, camera is not waterproof.

Went a week ago Friday and lost count at one of the open water spots with stacked up stocker brookies equally hitting top and bottom of dropper rig. Haven't been doin' this forever, but first time I've had stockers hit the dry so readily.

Wilson on Sunday

Hit Wilson on Sunday. Quite a few other fishermen but still plenty of open water to pick from....but I'm sure, by the time we got there, we were fishing spots that others had already been working. Still had a pretty good day with fish hitting various color egg patterns and hares ear and pheasant tails fished deep.

Wilson's is much bigger and deeper than I remember from years ago and seems to be much more accessible. I assume, due to removal of camps and clearing of brush etc. (but that could just be my memory which at times is questionable)

Certainly worth more trips to really get familiar with the stream etc.

Has anybody done any fishing in the gorge section in the fall?

Richard,
First thanks for telling me about this forum! Also, I haven't fished the gorge this year, but I have seen folks in the past hitting an area called 10 Foot Falls. They seem to catch some smallmouth right at the base of the falls as well as some trout....but I'm just going by the word on the street up on Brown Mountain Beach.

Richard,

You assumed correctly, the river is a lot more accessible. the portion near the second big bridge was all private land until the state bought it. Man it looks so much better up there. As for brush removal, its about the same, just less trash, trailers, etc... WC has the potential to be one of the best DH's in the state if the poachers are kept under control.

Haven't fished the gorge this year, but there are always shots at big trout in there. I just don't have the time to devote to a day on the gorge with all the other fishing ops going on.
